Land of Action's Mission and How We Will Accomplish It

⛰️
Our Mission
🤝 Help New Mexico grassroots progressive organizations find and learn from each other.
💪 Provide a repository of resources, ideas, and concrete steps New Mexico grassroots progressive organizations can use to strengthen their work.

Land of Action is itself a grassroots group, formed and staffed by volunteers who have worked in their communities and who share a vision of Land of Action being a crowd-sourced hub for communications, networking, information, ideas and actions. Land of Action is both by and for grassroots activists who work on behalf of American progressivism in New Mexico.

"American Progressivism"

Our founder, Heidi Li Feldman characterizes American progressivism as a commitment to constitutional democracy informed by the ideals of fairness, individual dignity, and government in service to the general welfare articulated in the Declaration of Independence. Progressivism is not the property of any one political party: It is fact-based thought and action in service of pluralistic constitutional democracy, opposed to arbitrary or tyrannical government power, and dedicated to justice and wellbeing for all.

Progressivism can be pursued by efforts explicitly and obviously focused on improving the law and politics of a pluralistic constitutional democracy serving the general welfare. It can also be pursued by efforts focused on particular aspects of social welfare and cultural enrichment. Land of Action seeks to include grassroots groups pursuing progressivism in politics, law, media, culture, and society. We want to link New Mexico's grassroots progressives across topics and causes as well as between different geographical parts of the state.

Grassroots through and through

For progressivism to flourish in our state – and across the country – we who believe in it must work to make it happen. The work can be hard and lonely. This is why activist groups make such a difference. Through division of labor and mutual assistance, group members lighten the effort. By working together, they remind one another that the cause is shared.

Land of Action aims to achieve similar benefits:

  • We will take on tasks and projects that can simultaneously serve progressive causes and groups throughout our state. For example, we will be providing subject area research, resources, information, and subjections in dedicated areas on our website. In addition to materials gathered directly by Land of Action volunteers, we will ask our subscribers and supporters for suggestions. Stay tuned: Our first subject will be keeping New Mexico's midterm elections free and fair.
  • We will sponsor events or actions for groups from across the state to promote their work outside their own geographical or topical areas and to participate in regional and statewide activism.
  • We will use our directory to list as many New Mexico progressive grassroots groups possible so that people can find one another. We will share news and messages from groups about what they are doing so that people can learn from and inspire each other.
  • We plan an online, members-only discussion venue for activists across the state to connect with one another.
